However changes in sleeping pattern along with other symptoms to watch out for could indicate that your cat may need some medical attention. Note that your kitten may double in size within the first week of her life and such intense growing requires a lot of sleep.
Once your kitten gets a little older the amount of time each day spend sleeping will decrease but even at around six months your kitten will likely be sleeping anywhere from 16 to 20 hours a day. While the number of hours kittens sleep may seem excessive to new kitten owners oversleeping in kittens is usually not cause to worry. With their sleep broken up into so many cat naps it s hard to keep track of. Among other things sleep allows your little friend to rest and it reinforces memorization and learning.
During their sleep cycle they replenish this. It s something to keep an eye on however as excessive sleep may indicate your cat has some underlying issue. They will sleep from 18 22 hours a day and will be moving non stop in the short times they are awake. They have to hunt or find different food sources.
When the kittens are very small until 5 weeks the sleep time is more. Here are the possible reasons why your pet kitty may be sleeping a lot more than usual. Whether your cat is a spry kitten or a mature feline his level of interaction and activity depends a lot on whether he s constantly recharging his kitty battery. On the other hand we have street cats who are making an effort to put dinner on the table.
The short answer is that kittens need a lot of sleep. In reality though these little furry friends do sleep because they are bored which doesn t mean that they need it. Adult cats sleep an average of 18 hours a day and kittens even more. Don t be concerned about this amount of sleep as it s perfectly normal for your kitten and allows their proper development in becoming an adult cat.
