If your guinea pig is the one that likes being petted then they will stretch out relax and make a mild purring noise.

Guinea pig purr noise. Some guinea pigs enjoy getting petted and cuddly while others don t. Some guinea pigs never make the sound while others do it often. Guinea pig purr when i pet him. You want your guinea pig to purr.

Check out my other guinea pig video. A purring guinea pig is content and comfortable. A guinea pig rumble is deeper than a purring noise. A contented guinea pig will make a low purring sound whereas an annoyed piggy may make a more high pitched purr with this increasing in pitch towards the end.

When they are irritated or annoyed they produce a high pitched noise that sounds like a loud purr. Cats aren t the only pets that purr. While a guinea pig s purring sound is a deeper and more consistent sound the meaning is the same. Moe is so adorable.

Guinea pigs may wheek in anticipation of something such as a treat dinner or feeding time or even attention. Sometimes while you re petting your pet you may hear them purr with some chutting in between. You have a special critter and it s happy to be in your care. In fact a guinea pig making this noise will be tense and may seem to even vibrate.

Compared to the low pitched rapid noise they make when they growl the rumbling is a long gentle and slow medium pitched purr mostly produced by male guinea pigs when looking for a mate. She may also vibrate a bit as well. If you hear your guinea pig make this sound don t be alarmed. Purring may also indicate fear if it s very short and your piggy is motionless.

In fact the chutting sound is apparently somewhat rare. Guinea pigs can also shriek as a warning to another guinea pig telling them to keep away if they are showing aggression. As far as i know a defensive shriek is not made out of aggression its because the shrieking guinea pig is afraid panicking and just wants to be left alone and certainly doesn t want to have a confrontation with the other guinea pig. A short purr sometimes described as a durr may indicate fear or uncertainty usually accompanied by the guinea pig remaining motionless.
